Will Dominion’s Football Team Lose Home-Field Advantage?
Amongst the news that Dominion will be getting a turf field in the future, a lot of speculation is surrounding if the Dominion Titan Football team, a team that made it to the 4A State Semifinals last year, and whether they will have to face the challenges of not playing any home games throughout a whole year.
The Dominion athletic department made it clear that there are still a lot of questions that need to be answered about this subject. “I would say right now there’s an above 50% chance that it is going to happen for the fall sports season,” Assistant AD Mrs. Gasser said. Athletic director Mr. Fleming also added that, “This is going to either happen this summer or next summer.”
The main issue they both addressed adamantly was that they want to make sure this only affects the Fall sports season, a season in which the football field is used once a week for five weeks throughout, rather than in the spring where it needs to be used consistently most nights every week. Mr. Fleming says they will know more details in a week and a half.
The reason for the speculation and remaining questions is the tedious process this takes for every school who wants a turf field. “The conditions need to be at a certain standard for the team to start working, so everything is up in the air at this point,” Mrs. Gasser said, “The length of the actual process can vary as well, there are environmental studies and weather projections we are doing for the late summer early fall time period, and it all depends on how quickly the excavation and construction team can get started.”
