Redskins Draft Strategy
The Redskins season last year were not very good considering they did not make the playoffs, but they did do some things very well. For instance, their offense averaged 24.8 points per game, and 403.4 yards per game. They struggled in the red zone and were ranked 30th in the NFL only converting 45.9% of the time for a touchdown. They did a good job addressing this issue with the signing of Terrelle Pryor and Brian Quick who are both good at sideline catches as well as fades in the end zone. I would like to see us draft a running back who can turn the edge quick and break tackles, which could help them score more touchdowns in the red zone.
The defense played miserably allowing 23.9 points per game. The Redskins should focus this draft on buffing up their defense while selecting a few key offensive players that could give the offense a little boast. With their first round pick, the 17th overall, they should select running back Dalvin Cook. Dalvin Cook is very fast and can make lots of defenders miss in the open field. He brings a threat to the pass game and can as well. He averaged 135.7 yards per game last year and would help them convert in the Red Zone.
Other key picks are Eddie Jackson who is a great safety who played for Alabama who the Redskins should select with their pick in the second round. He averaged 2.25 picks per season and leveled his opponent in the open field. He is not very fast, but has a high football IQ and is always in the right place at the right time. Florida cornerback Teez Tabor would be a great pick in the third round. He reads plays very well and makes tackles in the open field. He averaged three picks a year and had 33 tackles last year. Very rarely will you see someone blow right past him.
