Turf Field Coming to DHS by Next Year

With many schools in Loudoun County receiving turf fields in the past years, Dominion has long awaited it’s time to get its turf field. School Board member Debbie Rose and Board of Supervisors member Suzanne Volpe both advocated for the installation of artificial turf at the four remaining high schools without turf including Dominion. “The county will transfer the funds to the school system, so the process can begin,” Volpe said. According Volpe, as of March 7, 2017, “the Board of Supervisors allocated $1.9 million for the installation of artificial turf at Dominion High School.”

The school will officially have the field installed “sometime between now and next year, not necessarily the start but that time frame,” said Mrs. Gasser, the Assistant Athletic Director. The process will be lengthy including “a sight briefing and review, and from that point they’ll be working with Loudoun County Public Schools construction,” Athletic Director Mr. Fleming said.

The date of availability for use is still undetermined and “local governments have procedures for procurement of services, which must be followed,” Volpe said.

Regarding the funds being used “the field will be built with available funds. The county is not utilizing any bonds or other financing,” Volpe said.
