Restaurant Review: B Doughnut

B Doughnut is an artisan style doughnut shop that opened over the summer in old town Leesburg. The doughnuts are handcrafted and made from scratch every day. Since its opening, the shop has had amazing success and often times is sold out over the weekends.

The doughnut shop has eight flavors always available and a new specialty flavor announced each week on one of their social media sites, including such flavors as tiramisu, samoas, and berry crème. On the weekends, the shop is especially busy and there are long lines outside the shop before it even opens.

I personally tried the lemon curd filled doughnut, and the filling had just the right amount of tartness to cut the sweetness of the powdered sugar dusting on top. The dough was very light and fluffy and, even though I’m not the biggest doughnut fan, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Despite the delicious doughnut, I don’t think that I will be making my way back to B Doughnut anytime soon. Due to the limited days and hours it is open (open Thursday-Sunday for 3-4 hours each day) you almost have to have a game plan in place since there is such a huge possibility of a sell-out.

For that reason, it’s even worse to come with expectations of a certain flavor. I went on a Thursday morning, one of the shop’s least popular times, and the doughnut I was hoping to have was already sold out. Going to B Doughnut on a weekend, its most popular time, is even riskier, especially if you don’t come early in the morning and wait in line. If you plan to come later in the day, be sure to check their Instagram page, @b-doughnut, to make sure they are not already sold out.

Since their doughnuts are made with finer ingredients than what you would find at a Dunkin’ Donuts, it’s expected that the cost would be higher—and it is! The regular flavored doughnuts go for $2.75 and the specialty flavors are $3.75 each. Basically, this is not the place you want to go to if you’re bringing in doughnuts for a class party, unless you’re not opposed to spending close to $60 for two dozen doughnuts.

Overall, this is a doughnut I would love to have every once in a while, but if you’re not a doughnut snob, just stick to Shoppers or Duck Donuts were you can still enjoy delicious doughnuts without having to jump through multiple hoops.
