Titan Community Rallies at (Hopefully) One Final Board Meeting

Dr. Brewer’s bike was placed next to the rock to show support for his return to the school.

The fifth—and what many Dominion parents, teachers, students, and community members hope is the final—School Board meeting was perhaps the quietest yet. Even then, the Titan community turned out in droves on the last day of February in support of the beleaguered Brewer.

As the February 28th meeting was the first since Brewer’s hearing in front of an independent officer, many urged the board to decide quickly on his fate such that the community could move forward. A surprising number of parents stepped forward to wish the school board members good luck as they endeavored toward deciding Brewer’s fate.

Fifty-eight names were on the speaker sign-up list, and forty-some were advocates for Brewer’s return. Though tamer than meetings past, those who stood to speak were no less passionate about their faith in Brewer’s work in the Titan community and his innocence of the character allegations put against him.

The highlight of Tuesday’s meeting, perhaps, was Dominion CTE teacher Robin Wortman’s appearance as the Dominion spirit rock. Wortman’s portrayal of the rock, which has become a platform for subtle advocacy on Brewer’s behalf as well as a method through which to maintain school spirit over the past three months, was an attempt to remind the school board of the strength within the Titan community.

Other notable stories recounted include Brewer’s pushing broken-down cars out of the snow during ‘Snowmageddon’ and his willingness to protect an ex-Dominion teacher from an aggressive ex-boyfriend.

While Tuesday’s meeting was less explosive than past ones—likely due to the lack of substantive new information in Brewer’s case—it made clear that the Titan community will continue to be a presence until the final decision is made.
