Community Supports Dr. Brewer in Advance of Tuesday’s School Board Meeting
In light of Dr. Brewer’s leave of absence, Dominion High School’s staff along with students and members of the community have come together to show their support for the reinstatement of Dr. Brewer as principal.
Various efforts this week have been made to show unity among staff members in the aim to display support for Dr. Brewer. For example, on Tuesday morning, various faculty members stood in the front hallway of Dominion to greet students as they entered the building. “There were several mornings when we welcomed students because that’s what Dr. Brewer would have been doing if he was here,” history chair Steve Hicks said.
By participating in these efforts, teachers hope to bring attention to the positive impact Dr. Brewer has on the Titan community. “I think a lot of people don’t understand what an incredible school this is, so I think we just want to highlight what a great principal and what an incredible presence Dr. Brewer is. Maybe this will help people who don’t understand the Titan way and Titan Territory get a better understanding of that,” Hicks said.
The efforts made to shine a light on Dr. Brewer’s absence were organized on personal time by Dominion teachers and were voluntary. Staff members were made aware of these efforts through word of mouth and communication off school grounds.
Currently, the school board meeting on Tuesday, January 10 has garnered much attention and excitement as students, staff, and members of the community prepare to speak on behalf of this issue. “I know there’s a significant number of Loudoun residents who have signed up to speak at the school board meeting” fine arts teacher Jonathon Schiffler said.
Individuals attending the school board meeting wish to show a unified front dedicated to shining a light on Dr. Brewer’s absence and impact on Titan territory. “We want to make sure Dr. Brewer is well represented and accurately depicted in the public eye,” Schiffler said.
The outcome of this situation is still unclear, although many individuals believe the next one to two weeks will play a critical role in determining whether Dr. Brewer remains a part of Titan Territory.
