Dominion Football Takes on Amherst in Historic Playoff Faceoff

Player of the Year Vashon McCants looks to lead Dominion to their first ever home playoff win.

The 2016 Dominion Football Titans continue their record setting 8-2 football season 7:00 pm tonight night with a home playoff game against Amherst.

The Dominion defense, with plenty of speed and power, has been stellar, led by Tommy Christ and Jayde Pierre. They have given up a stout 13.8 points per game this year and has truly been the backbone of this team.

Their offensive attack has been timely and pretty consistent this year. Quarterback Vashon McCants and receivers Jayson Robinson and George Richardson lead the way on an offense that has scored at least 30 points in 6 of 10 games this year.

Although head coach Karl Buckwalter has been coaching at this school for 9 years, the differences in this team compared to others have been simple, “This team has just made plays,” Buckwalter said, “I think we have gotten a lot of breaks that have gone our way, but that is credited to this team putting themselves in those situations.”

“I think we always knew our true potential, and so did Coach Buck,” defensive linemen Joel Campos said, “And when we finally bought into what he was telling us we realized that we can play with any team.”

“Practices have been up-tempo since day one; the things we do in practice correlate to the games and that can be attributed to the best season in school history so far,” defensive linemen Jayde Pierre said. “A lot of our success needs to be pointed towards our coaches though; they have been watching hours of film on Amherst, preparing and scheming the best game plan possible to be successful for Friday’s game.”

Amherst is definitely a respected team, they went 8-2 this year in the 4A West Division and are coming off of a win against Pulaski County. “Amherst is a big, fast and powerful team, and they have a very successful program. They are in these situations every year,” Buckwalter said.

“I have watched a lot of film preparing for this Friday. They look big upfront and run hard, but our defense should be able to handle them and our offense is dynamic enough to put up points against any defense,” Pierre said.

This game will come down to many things; the Titans will focus on not over thinking things even though the circumstances are so high. “At the end of the day as long as we can get stops we will win the game, and that’s what it is going to come down to. Our team has been focused and determined all week and throughout the whole season, it’s just about executing and getting stops,” Buckwalter said.
