Field Hockey Reaches the Postseason
The Dominion field hockey team will play its second postseason game against the Woodgrove Wolverines at Dominion High School at 6 pm on Wednesday, October 26th. This is the first year in all of Loudoun County Public Schools that field hockey is a varsity sport and no longer played through a club.
The team had an outstanding regular season finishing with an overall record of 12 wins and 3 losses. One of which was to Woodgrove. Lone senior and captain Lindsey Eller said, “Woodgrove will definitely be the toughest opponent we have to face so far this postseason.” She credits this challenge to Woodgrove’s strong team being comprised of many experienced players.
Not many athletes like to make pre-game predictions but Eller sounds confident that she and her teammates can get the job done. “It will be a close game for sure, but I think our team will be able to prevail in the end.”
Earlier in the regular season Dominion lost 3-1 to Woodgrove. Eller said, “We are going to play man to man on Woodgrove’s key players who tend to control the ball and make the shots on goal.” She also states that the team will have to focus on their communication, and keep a fast- paced game with lots of passing.
Eller said, “Our biggest strength as a team is that we actually play as a team. We all pull an equal weight and don’t just rely on a few players to carry the whole team.” She states that field hockey isn’t an individual-based sport which allows everyone to work together as a great team should.
