Netflix Picks: The Office
The Office is quite possibly the most notable show that has ever been on TV. Whether or not you’ve actually seen the show, you’ve probably seen at least one of the countless memes of the oblivious Michael Scott surfing the internet.
The show centers around the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company in Scranton, PA. The boss of this branch is the notorious Michael Scott, portrayed by Steve Carell. Scott, paired with his loyal sidekick Dwight Schrute, never seem to make it throughout an episode without getting into some sort of predicament, whether it be evading lawsuits or launching watermelons off of the top of buildings onto trampolines.
The casting directors could not have done a better job in selecting its cast. Every detail of every character from their appearances down to their voices seem to embody the characters perfectly. Even the secondary cast, like Stanley, Meredith, and Creed have the ability to connect to their audience.
The Office is a comedy, but prevalent throughout the seasons are heartwarming and touching moments, like Jim and Pam’s budding relationship, or when Michael Scott leaves Dunder Mifflin to move to Colorado with his fiancée. To this day, no TV or movie moment has made me cry as much as the day Michael left The Office.
This show is the ideal mix of gut-wrenching humor, romance, and relatability to make anyone’s Top Ten TV shows list and draw in its audience. My firm belief is that binge watching wasn’t a thing until The Office made its way onto Netflix. If you haven’t yet seen this series, make sure you start it over a long weekend, because once you start, you just can’t stop.
