Dominion vs. John Champe Football Preview

The Titans are going to need to have an all hands on deck, next man up mentality if need be, as they are going into a chaotic John Champe Homecoming environment at 7 pm, with a chance to solidify their postseason position.

Although the Champe team is different in who’s playing on the field and the style in which they are doing it, their offense can still pose problems for the Titan defense. “This team is big and physical. They run the ball a lot and wear teams out. Their quarterback is less of a passer, but is an effective runner,” Coach Buckwalter said.

While that offense is going against a defense that has done a great job against the run all year, Coach acknowledges that depth is an issue for this team. “Tommy (Christ) doesn’t get a break until halftime, and players like Vashon (McCants), Billie (Walker), and Jayson (Robinson) don’t get much rest either.”

Although every player at this point of the year is a big deal, the Titans will be getting back one of their best players and keys to their stout defense, lineman Jayde Pierre. After suffering an injury that made him miss three games, he is returning at full strength. “I’m 100%. I’m excited to get back out there and I’m confident in what we can do.” Pierre said. “I feel so ready because I’ve had to watch them play for three games now, and this game has high implications on our chances to host a playoff game for this program.”

With Champe residing above the Titans in the current standings this is a game that matters not only tonight, but for the weeks to come thanks to the VHSL Playoff system.
