Netflix Pick: Time Lapse
The 2014 film Time Lapse is a sci-fi thriller that works with the concept of peering into the future. When three friends discover a machine that takes pictures 24 hours in advance, they begin to use the photos to benefit their every-day lives. However, the photos soon begin to take over their lives and the trio plummets into a future they never would have imagined for themselves.
The director Bradley King uses the music and camera movement to build suspense and while the movie isn’t necessarily terrifying, it slowly and then all at once plummets into insanity and creepiness.
It also deserves an A+ for originality and unpredictability. The concept of toying with the bounds of time is creatively employed and mixed with the overall dark tone of the story.
Although the plot was carefully constructed, it perhaps could have been better executed with a faster pace and better acting. These factors are easily overlooked, however, as the plot thickens and the turmoil builds.
Overall, “Time Lapse” is good but hardly nears greatness. If you’re looking for a thriller that doesn’t follow the ghosts and possessed children trend, it’s definitely worth watching.
