Trea Turner Turning Heads as a Rookie

Trea Turner has been making a name for himself in the major leagues since he was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse. Coming into Sunday night’s game against the division rival, New York Mets, Turner had been hitting an exceptional .335/.354/.515.

He has created a much needed offensive spark for the Washington Nationals, and nothing is more impressive than when a batter can disrupt those routine plays that many fans take for granted. Turner has beat out routine ground balls hit to shortstop, which rarely happens in the MLB.

Since the Nats have an infield roster already loaded with talent, such as shortstop Danny Espinosa and second baseman, Daniel Murphy, it was difficult for the team to find a position that Turner could play. This block in the infield was preventing Turner from having an everyday role in the MLB, and the Nats desperately needed his bat in the lineup.  Playing most of his games with Class AAA Syracuse at shortstop, he has been able to not only adapt, but also excel in  a brand new position in the big leagues in center field.

After only 48 games of playing with the Nationals, Trea Turner was named National League Rookie of the Month, having hit .357 and slugging .571 in the 28 games he played in August. Turner has found himself hitting leadoff on the Nats roster with an OBP of .354. He has only played 48 games so far this season, but he has stolen 20 bases in 23 tries. In other words, Trea Turner is outstanding, and he has a bright future set for himself.
