Game of the Week: Boys Basketball Tip-Off

The Titan Boys Basketball team will tip off their season this tonight at home against Falls Church High School in the Brown’s Nissan Tip Off Classic. The Titans are one of the four teams participating in the tournament that will be played Tuesday and Thursday night.

Last season the team did not meet expectations. With the hopes to advance to regional play, the Titans did not make it out of the conference tournament and finished with a 10-12 record.  With the hope to not let history repeat itself during the off season the Titans participated in various work outs, team camps, and fall and summer games. “Hopefully [these] activities will help us build a chemistry on the court that can enable success,” head coach Sonny Green said.

Green will enter his second season with the team, and is focusing on the little things this year. “My goal this season is for us to get better every practice and every game. Being a good team is a process. It starts with consistently doing the offensive and defensive fundamentals well. If we do that, wins will take care of themselves,” Green said.

Seniors Tommy Arthur and Lukas Difazio and junior Ryan Williams are just a few players to watch out for this season. Arthur was named to the All Conference team last year and is a versatile offensive player with great leadership. Difazio’s size is a threat to opposing teams and Williams’s is a key shooter for the team and is a good ball handler.

Four year varsity player and three year starter Adam Branch is confident that this season will be a successful one. “We have an older roster, consisting of only juniors of seniors, so we should be able to handle pressure better. This week we’ll get to see how we match up with very skilled teams from larger schools,” senior Branch said.

Green is also confident that the six returning senior varsity players will set an example to the younger players. “Hopefully since they’ve experience a lot throughout their career, it will help them step to the forefront by leading not only by example, but also verbally,” Green said.
