World Series Predictions
Zack Herink
The day has finally come, Game One of the World Series, Mets vs. Royals. Both teams have great pitching and batting but in completely different ways. The Mets have been hitting home runs like crazy and their starting pitching rotation is one of the best in the majors. While the Royals have great contact hitters to get on base and are scoring runs the old fashioned way, in addition to their amazing bullpen, it’s not a surprise that they repeated as American League champions. However, the Mets are a feel good story, if you told me in April that the Mets were going to be in the World Series this year I probably would have never believed you, but they have come back in an amazing way with great, young starting pitchers. The Mets have the hot hitters in this series in Daniel Murphy and Lucas Duda coming off a fantastic game 4 victory over the Cubs driving in five runs. Taking all things into account this series will be hard-fought and passionate, because both teams have something to prove.
My Pick: New York in Game 5
World Series MVP: Curtis Granderson, OF
Daniel McHale
Kansas City and New York both haven’t won a World Series since the 80’s. Both are two very impressive teams, but in their own ways. Kansas City has more of old school “get on base” approach to hitting, while New York has been relying on their power hitters. The Royals have also been hitting the ball hard though with fifteen home runs this postseason, while the Mets only have thirteen. New York has been relying heavily on their starting pitchers, while Kansas City has an overall strong pitching staff. The two teams have only played each other nine teams in the last two decades, so nothing about the match-up can be accurately predicted. The two teams both deserve the chance to play for the World Series this season, and it’s going to be full of surprises.
My pick: Kansas City in Game 6
World Series MVP: Alcides Escobar. The Royal’s leadoff hitter has an aggressive mindset that helps his team thrive.
