When is Senior Exemption?

Senior exemption is a privilege that students of Dominion High School look forward to all year. After four long years, we look forward to having a week off that no other grade receives, but, finding out when this day occurs is far from simple.

Finding out when senior exemption begins is difficult. Asking teachers is hopeless because they are just as uninformed as the students of DHS are. Going to administration is difficult as well because they choose not to release the specific day as well. Senior exemption is a week that all students look forward to throughout their high school careers, but finding out when this day comes is near impossible.

Why is this? Shouldn’t such a privilege be set in stone in the school calendar so students are well-informed? The answer is simple: yes.

Until today, May 11, 2017, seniors are still guessing what day we will be informed of our qualification for exemption, as well as the actual start to senior skip week.

Other questions that arise in regards to exemption include: what are the exact criteria in regards to receiving senior exemption? How much do teachers have a say in allowing students to get exemption? What types of absences count against students who are trying to achieve exemption? Are school related trips accounted for in the total number of days absent when calculating who is qualified? Why is finding out a set date in which seniors at DHS are let out for exemption so difficult?
